The Emsworth Stroke Club provides an informal setting where people who have suffered a stroke can meet others in a happy, relaxed atmosphere. We hope to help them to regain their confidence and re-learn skills, by providing stimulating and congenial meetings. Our aim is to try to improve the quality of life of both our members and their carers, and to give them something to look forward to each week.
We are very fortunate in having the support of a very loyal, committed team of entirely voluntary helpers. The club was formed in 1983 and some of its founders are still helping. Over 300 members have benefitted from the Club since then, ranging in age from mid-40's to late-90's*. We have the great asset of professional help from a voluntary physiotherapist. Activities of the club are organised by an elected committee drawn from helpers and members.
* Younger stroke survivors may be interested in the Portsmouth Different Strokes group (for details click here).
